| Excellent beaches and warm sunshine create the ideal environment for children, but there is also plenty to keep the little ones occupied when you don’t feel like building yet more sandcastles. Head inland, explore some rustic Algarve or visit one of the island’s dedicated water parks – perfect for children of all ages. Zoo Marine This oceanographic facility celebrates the relationship the Algarve has with its environment, and a wonderful family day can be spent watching dolphins, seals, sharks, turtles and exotic birds and fish. With a philosophy based on conservation and education, Zoomarine also offers families the chance to swim and interact with dolphins, leading to a greater understanding of the importance of these intelligent and beautiful creatures. The facility also acts as a rehabilitation centre for sick and injured Algarve marine mammals. Water Parks Slide and Splash – Considered by many to be the best in Europe, this large water park has fantastic facilities and a wide range of cafes and restaurants, ideal for spending a fun packed family day. Aqua Show – Situated near Quarteira, this water park has the largest wave pool in Europe. Atlantic Park – In Loule, Atlantic Park has water slides of all descriptions, plus pool aerobics for the energetic or quad bikes for those not wanting to get wet. Horse Riding The rugged areas of Western Algarve are best explored on horseback, and Tiffany’s Riding School near Lagos is the ideal starting place to ride out into the surrounding countryside. Day rides explore the forest and coast of this beautiful area, riding along ravaged cliff tops or wandering through quiet valleys. Algarve Zoo/Krazy World With its jungle theme and wide range of activities, the twin theme park of Algarve Zoo and Krazy World has enough to keep children of all ages occupied for a long time. A petting zoo, swimming pool, two 18 hole crazy golf courses, funfair and reptiles such as snakes, alligators and crocodiles, ensure that there is always a lot to see and do. Even though catering facilities are very good, it is worth taking a picnic as there are lots of areas to relax and eat. |
