Development has been sympathetic, the high rise sprawl of some resorts has been avoided. The town itself is quite compact, the focal point being the small square behind the beach, home to a selection of cafes and bars which enjoy views across the beach and out to sea. The beach is a stretch of soft sand, sheltered on two sides by the cliffs which give Carvoeiro a pretty picture postcard look. Pedaloes can be hired at the beach and there are a couple of diving schools for those who wish to be active. Local fishermen offer boat trips along the coast to see the caves or ‘algares’, formed where the sea has eroded the cliffs. Carvoeiro is popular with couples and families and is an ideal choice for a relaxing holiday or the perfect base from which to explore the rest of the Algarve. |
