Stretching south from St. Julian's the main focus of Sliema is the seafront promenade which is in two sections. The Tower Road area is popular with locals and holidaymakers alike with its seafront lidos and 'beach' which, rather than sand is a large, smooth sandstone sunbathing area. There is an excellent choice of restaurants and cafe life is lively and fashionable. In summer months singers and musicians play in the street, adding to a generally festive atmosphere. The second section of the seafront enjoys fabulous views across Vallette and from here you can take a ferry to the capital or further afield to Comino or Gozo. Boat trips around the island leave regularly. The Valletta harbour tour which departs from Sliema is a 'must see'. Sliema boasts over 600 shops and most of the designer brands are well represented. Nightlife is mostly centred around the popular restaurants and cafes on the sea front but if you're looking for something more lively Paceville in St. Julian's, some 4km away, is bustling with nightclubs and bars. |
