Gozo
|
| Situated 5km to the north west of Malta, reached in around 30 minutes by ferry is the peaceful, rural island of Gozo. Just 15km long by 6 km wide, Gozo is known for its laid back, peaceful way of life and stunning scenery. |
The landscape is greener than Malta and there’s plenty to see including 22 churches, historical temples and lovely vistas. The capital, Victoria, known locally as Rabat is set in the geographical centre of the island. Its a maze of narrow winding streets which open out onto pretty squares, ideal for taking a refreshing drink in a pavement cafe whilst watching the world go by. Gozo has some decent beaches, including a wide expanse of red sand at Ramla Bay and a sand and pebble beach at the island’s main resort Marsalforn which is 4km north of Ramla Bay, Marsalforn has grown from a small fishing village into a popular destination for islanders and visitors alike. There’s a dive centre and snorkelling is also a popular pastime. The lovely promenade is the ideal place for evening walks and is lined with a good selection of cafes and restaurants. Nightlife can be found but it is low key and relaxed. Buses run regularly to Victoria from where almost anywhere on the island can be reached by public transport.
