The three main areas of Cala d’Or are Cala Egos to the south, Cala d’Or itself in the centre and Cala Ferrera to the north. Each area has several small coves, mostly gently shelving and ideal for bathing. The main beach is Cala Gran, towards the centre of the resort although the neighbouring smaller beaches tend to be a little quieter. Cala d’Or was once nothing more than a small fishing village. It has now grown into a large resort which has nevertheless remained unspoiled by avoiding the high rise development seen in other resorts. There is a smart marina at Cala Llonga and a large and stylish pedestrian area with a wealth of trendy shops, bars and restaurants. This area can get quite lively in the summer evenings, but it is mostly low a key resort and certainly much quieter than the south coast resorts as the vast majority of visitors to Cala d’Or are families or couples. |
