Pollença
|
|
| Inland, nestled amongst the hills, is the charming medieval market town of Pollença, characterised by its labyrinth of cobbled streets, traditional squares and tall, mostly 17th and 18th century architecture. The large square, Plaça Major, with its cafés frequented by locals, is set against the stunning backdrop of the intricate rose window of the Church of Nostra Senyora dels Angels. The pride of the town is the Via Crucis, a long, steep stone stairway which climbs El Calvari (Calvary Hill). At the top is the revered 13th century statue of Mare de Déu del Peu de la Creu (Mother of God at the Foot of the Cross) with magnificent views of the countryside and coastline between Cap de Formentor and Cap de Pinar. |
