Cloaked in deep green olive trees and tall cypresses, the mountainous interior is softer and rounder than Crete. The hundreds of kilometres of coastline boast long stretches of golden beach to the north and west and picturesque rocky coves and little bays to the east, often best reached by boat. Corfu is a relatively small island with delightful scenery both inland and on the coast and is easy to get around by car. Corfu Town is well worth a visit for shopping and sightseeing in the many busy little lanes which open out into surprisingly grand squares and avenues. Like the Cretans, the people of Corfu have a seductive warmth and hospitality which add to its charm for visitors. |
